Ian Boulter
Ian was born and brought up in Ipswich, the County Town of Suffolk. He began to play the piano and trombone at the age of nine, starting to play the organ a couple of years later. Undergraduate study was made at the City of Leeds College of Music, where he obtained a 1st Class. This was followed with Postgraduate study at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, where he was awarded the Post Graduate Advanced Performance Diploma. After graduating Ian spent a period of time working as a freelance musician all over the United Kingdom with various orchestras, theatre orchestras and bass bands.
In 1991 Ian moved to Scotland when he was appointed a Music Instructor with Central Region. Since then Ian has been involved with many theatre companies as Musical Director, and was Organist & Choirmaster at Carriden Parish Church in Bo’ness for more than 16 years. At the start of 2008 Ian was appointed Organist & Director of Music at the Church of the Holy Rude, Stirling. From 2007 Ian has been the conductor of the Falkirk Schools’ Youth Orchestra. Six years ago Ian was appointed Accompanist and Assistant Musical Director of the Stirling City Choir. Ian is in much demand as an organist, accompanist, conductor and arranger.
